Welcome to the West York Ambulance web page. We are pleased to provide high-quality Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Life Support (ALS) emergency medical services to the citizens of West York Borough, West Manchester Township, surrounding communities.
LETTER FROM THE CHAIRMAN – Rod Drawbaugh
West York Ambulance has offered BLS service to the community since it was formed in 1945. At the time, the services were provided by the dedicated volunteers of the Reliance Fire Company in West York. Over time, the organization grew to a fully paid operation which now employs over 30 people.
ALS/BLS services are provided 24 hours/day, 7 days per week and 365 days/year by state-certified Emergency Medical Technicians and Paramedics. Typically these services are provided to patients who do require extra support or cardiac monitoring while en route to the hospital.
In 2010, West York Ambulance began providing ALS service. The ALS services involve life-saving techniques performed by state-certified paramedics who are qualified to administer life-saving drugs during such emergencies as heart attacks, strokes, allergic reactions, asthma attacks and other medical emergencies.
West York Ambulance has three state-of-the-art ambulances equipped with 12 lead cardiac monitors and other high tech equipment. The 24-hour service is centrally located off East Berlin Road and is capable of being on the scene of most medical emergencies within 6 minutes or less.
West York Ambulance continues to grow responding to over 3,000 calls each year. West York Ambulance is not funded by any governmental assistance, such as state, local or federal dollars. West York Ambulance’s $900,000 budget comes from fees for our service, donations from generous community members and subscriptions
